2011
On March 19, 2011, the National Park Service and its contractors completed the planting of a new National Christmas Tree, exactly one month to the day after the previous Tree was lost to a wind storm. The new Tree is a 26-1/2 foot Colorado blue spruce -- same as the previous tree -- from a tree nursery in New Jersey.
Lighting for the 2011 tree included approximately 65 sets of programmable multi-colored LED lights and 160 starburst ornaments. The heirloom topper design, used for the sixth consecutive year, was upgraded with commercial grade Tetra®MAX LEDs.
