The National Christmas tree is lighted for the benefit of photographers by technicians who were at the same time testing the lights on the 99-foot Engleman spruce 12/22. The tree will be lighted up for the holiday season 12/23 by President Eisenhower. It is located on the Ellipse between the White House and Washington Monument (shown in background) and will serve for part of this year's Pageant of Peace.
