Metcalf Station to Rich Cabins via Dan Beard was perhaps our toughest day of hiking... The 2002 Ponil Complex fire left little to shade us from a baking sun on a long hike -- until rain and hail hit us on our descent to Rich Cabins. [Some map mis-direction adding mileage to our trek didn't help either.] Did find energy to take in Homesteading at Rich Cabins (including milking a cow and a pooh-flinging contest). A few stayed up for the evening "campfire" program...
