The theme was "Family", selected to emphasize the comitment of our Nation's families to help one another and to serve others.
The tree featured "A Thousand Points of Light", emphasizing President Bush's commitment to the spirit of volunterism.
It had 5,000 lights, including 1,000 star-shaped white ornaments which shine through a background alternately lighted red and blue. The white stars were lit constantly, symbolizing the untiring efforts of volunteers throughout the nation. The thousand whte stars were placed about two feet apart to keep the light points distinct.
