The multi-colored lighting consisted of 800 GE medium based brilliant yellow, red, green and blue lights. This variety of hues reflects the multi-facted nature of American heritage.

Hundreds of colored ornaments adorn the tree for daytime viewing.

The five-pointed luminous white star, measuring 30-inches in diameter, which topped the tree in 1989 was used again in 1990 at Mrs. Bush's request.

For the first time, trees grown on reclaimed surface coal mine lands were used to form the Pathway of Peace. These comprised 57 small scotch pine trees representing the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the US Territories.
